"The Invisible Jew" exhibition

Astroland, Coney Island  1985
Since the early 1980s I have been photographing the ultra-Orthodox community in Coney Island during Chol Hamoed, the intervening days of the Sukkot and Passover holidays. Here is a member of their 'modesty squad' covering up images of women in preparation of a visit to the now defunct Astroland Amusement Park.

Some of my work is exhibited as part of this fascinating show, "The Invisible Jew: the lack of representation of women in orthodox media, the circumstances that allowed it, its consequences, and related issues".

Hosted by @DetourGallery, Red Bank, NJ. Opening June 24, 2018. Organized by the Jewish Art Salon.
